Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
When William Penn was first established in 2002, we were the first multi-brand retailer to offer fine writing instruments to consumers in India. One of the brands we simply knew we had to have was Montblanc. The company dates back to the early 1900s and is practically synonymous with the history of the modern fountain pen. One of the signature Montblanc fountain pens, the ‘Rouge et Noir’, was considered an outstanding technical achievement back in 1906, because it could be used without the dipping the nib into an inkwell, while the Meisterstück model no. 149 continues to be the most recognizable writing instrument ever made.
4810 – the height of perfection
There is a story behind the instantly-recognizable “Snowcap” emblem. It is a representation of the snow-covered peak of the Mont Blanc (Europe’s highest mountain), symbolising the brand’s commitment to the highest quality and finest European craftsmanship. The peak is 4810 metres above sea level, and this number is a recurring motif in many of Montblanc’s products.
The iconic brand has borne witness to much of the 20th century’s history. It sometimes pays homage to people, events and stories that have also had a significant impact on the world through special collections like the Great Characters and Le Petit Prince collections. These collections can run the gamut of Montblanc products including fountain pens, ballpoint pens, rollerball pens, notebooks, cufflinks and ink bottles.
The Montblanc pen price is due to a combination of factors. This premium brand works with master-craftsmen and internationally acclaimed designers. Unlike most companies, Montblanc still makes its own nibs. Many of their fountain pen nibs are made of gold inlaid with metals like ruthenium or rhodium. The nibs are often “tipped” with metals from the platinum family. This makes the nib resistant to abrasion.
While Montblanc is best known for its superbly crafted fountain, ballpoint and rollerball pens, they are also known for their fine leather accessories including wallets, belts and bags. Their belts and cufflinks are often linked to their fine writing instrument collections, producing beautiful accessories for any occasion.
It is common knowledge that all Montblanc products including their rollerball pens, fountain pens, ballpoint pens, wallets and belts are exquisitely crafted from the highest quality material. However, the secret of their longevity and success is their attention to detail. They hand-polish each nib and perform a writing test for every single pen they create, to achieve that “Montblanc quality”. The excellence in design, finish and quality make them family heirlooms to be handed down and cherished by generations to come.
William Penn is proud to be an authorised Montblanc retailer, carrying authentic Montblanc products. They come with Montblanc’s certificate of authenticity and warranty duly sealed, numbered and stamped. We offer an element of customization on certain Montblanc products. These personalized gifts are perfect to make your loved ones feel special.
