Citizens across the country are faced with a devastating issue. Now that the daily office commute has been made redundant, people are struggling to find a use for this extra hour (hours if you are a Bangalorean). Don’t worry! We are here to help you solve this catastrophic problem. If you are one of those people who are upset because your commute is now from kitchen to couch, here’s a list of our favourite, constructive indoor hobbies to help you out:
Ink Mixing – Feeling blue? Now is a great time to really “feel” your colour. Ink mixing is a fun hobby that can produce an endless variety of colours. Play around with different proportions and colours to create a palette you love or simply create a bespoke colour just for you. Brush up on colour theory and pick up a set of ink vials or choose your own colours from a wide selection.
Adult Colouring – This therapeutic hobby is very popular because of the associated health benefits. Colouring relaxes the amygdala (the fear-centre of the brain) giving you the same benefits of meditation. Colouring engages both sides of the brain and improves focus and motor skills while reducing stress. Most importantly it’s fun. Spend some quality time alone or with your children while doing this. You can buy an adult colouring book or create your own doodles in a blank notebook.
Read the Bhagavad Gita – Now is a good time to learn what’s actually in there. We’ve found a gorgeous edition with the original Sanskrit verses and their English translations. Even if you never get around to reading it in its entirety, this edition is a beautiful conversation-starter.
Calligraphy – If it’s not Doctor Appreciation Month right now it should be. There is so much to admire about these knowledgeable, brave souls who are battling for humans and humanity. If we were to focus on all there is to admire, you’d be reading a novel not a blog post. Instead, we’re focusing on an area wherein they leave much to be desired – handwriting.
Calligraphy is a visual art. Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex is a devoted practitioner and it is easy to see (pun intended) why. It has been around in some form or the other for over 3000 years because beauty has never and will never go out of style. If you are a beginner, there are a number of free tutorials and free practice sheets available online. Beginners and experts alike will love the Rubinato Calligraphy 7735 Pen. This stunning quill comes with 3 assorted nibs, a decorative stand and a 10-cc bottle of ink.
