The Sailor Pen Company made its Indian debut in 2008 and is now one of the most popular brands of fine writing instruments in the country.
Om Shri Ganeshay Namah is an expression of Sailors gratitude to the Indian people. Melding the rich traditions and cultures of two great and ancient civilisations, Sailor is proud to introduce this limited-edition series containing only 108 pieces worldwide. Each numbered maki-e pen is a tribute to Lord Ganesha and has been signed personally by the artist, master craftsman Isana Kobayashi.
The pen is made of ebonite - a lustrous hard-rubber like material that is renowned as the worlds oldest resin. Difficult to process, it's a traditional material for fountain pens with excellent ink corrosion resistance. The jet-black colour develops a subtle patina with age. The polished gleam of the beautiful ebonite pen is complimented by the 21k solid gold nib. The KOP nib is one of Sailors most renowned nibs and is prized for its subtle springiness.
The stunning elements on the pen were detailed using Kaga creative maki-e. The special technique was developed to help express brightness and colour that could not be fully conveyed through traditional maki-e. This new lacquer art was developed without compromising the artistry and dignity of traditional maki-e, a revered artform passed down through generations. The artist skilfully created the images through a delicate process using gold, silver and brass powders.
