A key philosophy of Japanese culture that is rooted in Zen Buddhism, Wabi Sabi is the view or thought of finding beauty in imperfection, eschewing artificial beauty and the classical Western of definition of beauty, which often seems synonymous with perfection. Loosely translated, ˜Wabi encompasses simplicity, impermanence, and flaws, while ˜Sabi refers to the patina of age, meaning things whose beauty stems from age. A concept that can be difficult to articulate in English, it is perhaps best described by Leonard Koren as "The beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete.

Sailor collaborated with Urushi artist, Wayo Shimamori, who developed a special technique ËœIrogasane Sabinuri to create the pens in this limited edition series. After a number of steps involving coats of Urushi (Japanese lacquer), drying and polishing, the textured surface is painted with coloured Urushi and metallic powder to create the final look. The pen comes in two colours, red and green, and there are only 88 pieces of each available worldwide.
